With their roots in Albury, The Northern Folk are a 10-piece folk/stomp band based in Melbourne. Seven of the band members attended the same high school, and they have been making music together since 2012.
The Northern Folk are regular performers at music festivals and community events all over Australia. From directing the inaugural By The Banks Music Festival to winning St Kilda Festival’s New Music Stage Competition, the band continues to climb to new and exciting heights. Their LP, Stumble On Home, reached #27 on the iTune Australia album charts.
The Northern Folk have generously donated their time and talent to us for almost as long as the Winter Solstice has been running. There’s nothing more comforting on a long, dark night than hearing their richly textured and heartfelt songs.
Georgie Currie, Paul Dyason, and Renn Picard join the Winter Solstice again this year as The Northern Folk for the eleventh time. Their songs full of rich melodies and poetic lyricism never shy away from sharing reflections on mental ill health in the course of love, heartbreak, grief, conflict, and more. We cannot wait to welcome these artists back to Albury for what is sure to be another outstanding performance.
