“Annette and Stuarts’ social advocacy in this space. And their ability to stand up. Their ability to show grit. And also their ability to be vulnerable in this space is something that makes them very unique.”
Bek Nash- Webster, Benalla PHN
Whilst the Winter Solstice is a core focus of Survivors of Suicide and Friends, we work all year round. We continually advocate for change, ensuring that the conversation about suicide is never silenced or overshadowed.
We work in a number of partnerships with other organisations and groups to help educate, advocate, and connect people in conversations about mental health. No matter whether we’re in person or virtually, our community and network is vital to changing the way we perceive mental health and talk about suicide.

Survivors of Suicide & Friends work closely in partnership with Creative Director, Helen Newman of Nomad Films. The below extract has been cited from the Solstice the Documentary website. We hope to continue to be involved in the production of this film & help Helen raise the much needed funds to complete this important and poignant project.
‘Solstice’ is a hopeful, determined and positive story of change that can come out of a most heartbreaking tragedy. Beginning with the story of Mary’s parents, Annette and Stuart Baker, the film expands out to journey through Australia and across the globe documenting the stories of those who are daily on the frontline in the battle for better mental health care
– the survivors of suicide.

Mental Health Week is an important time of the year for Survivors of Suicide and Friends. We like to use this week to reflect, to check in with others, and to share messages and spark conversations about mental health in our everyday lives. Our Mental Health Week will often entail collaborative projects or video series, which we share with our Survivors of Suicide and Friends community on social media.
If you have an enquiry about SOS&F or the Winter Solstice, please do not hesitate to reach out.
We’ll endeavour to get back to you as soon as we can.
