Helen Haines is the Independent Federal Member for Indi. Elected in May 2019, she became the first Independent federal parliamentarian to succeed another in the same electorate since Federation in 1901. Her career began in nursing and midwifery, and her transition to politics was motivated by a desire for better education, better healthcare, eradicating corruption in politics, harnessing clean energy for Australia’s future, and creating more employment opportunities.Helen recited Bruce Dawes’ poem Presences for us at the 2020 Winter Solstice.
